Developmental Edit

Provides in-depth feedback, insight, and advice on: content, structure, organization, focus, clarity, style, mechanics, and suitability for intended market.

This is best for early stages of writing (within first few chapters) or can even be done prior to writing.

Comprehensive Edit

The most in-depth level of book editing. This edit focuses on the structure and content, the clarity, and the writing style.

It includes every aspect of editing (critique, developmental edit, proofread) and a written editor's report offering advice and recommendations for improvement.

Proofreading

This is where the editor has fun. Here, grammar, punctuation, and spelling are corrected. Comments are provided to explain changes to educate and enhance the skills of the author. 

This is the last phase of the editing process, intended for full manuscripts. It shows readers that you are serious about and respect your work and also their reading experience.

Our proven process of interviews, questionnaires and review sessions produces clear, well-written content, capturing your voice and intent throughout.

Glossary Creation

During the Comprehensive Edit, author selected terms will be collected and defined to create a Glossary. While reading the content, definitions will be developed, if not outright provided. 

Index Creation

To create a strong Index, important topics, subtopics, and cross references are captured and organized in a meaningful order. Doing so requires the ability to discern the major themes of a manuscript as well as the important sub-themes. Only with this understanding can an indexer coherently index a text, leaving out the tangential information not necessary to index. The manuscript is carefully assessed and an in-depth, focused index of major and minor topics is provided. 

This can be a stand-alone service but is best coupled with the Comprehensive Edit. 

Formatting

Formatting contains no editing but provides better structure and organization of the content to enhance the layout and reader comprehension.

Partner Services

LM Editing has partnerships with professional designers to help authors develop or simply polish any graphics or images contained within the content as well as to design the right jacket to attract the attention of readers. We also offer publishing guidance for both commercial or self-publishing routes. These Partner Services can accompany any of the Editing Services but are not offered as a standalone service.
